RALEIGH, N.C. (June 22, 2023) – The NCRLA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the North Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association (NCRLA), has announced its scholarship recipients for 2023-2024. Twelve students in the state have been selected to receive scholarships.
Scholarships are distributed to students pursuing post-secondary studies in culinary arts, restaurant management, or similar fields, or to students whose parents are current hospitality industry employees.
“Our North Carolina hospitality industry depends on people to fuel its success. We are pleased to offer scholarships to deserving students who aim to pursue careers in the industry,” said NCRLA President & CEO Lynn Minges. “We are immensely grateful for the generous contributions from endowments, individuals, and corporations, that allow us offer this much-needed financial support to help prepare students for successful careers in this industry.”
The 2023 scholarship recipients are:
- Johnathan Allen (Sylva) is the recipient of the Jimmy Alfano Scholarship. He plans to attend Southwestern Community College.
- Kinverlin Alvarez (Swansboro) is the recipient of the Jimmy Alfano Scholarship. She plans to attend Johnson & Wales University, Providence Campus.
- Madilyn Chaulk (Belvidere) is the recipient of the Vickie Clark- Flaherty Scholarship. She plans to attend North Carolina State University.
- Angela Clese (Raleigh) is the recipient of the Jimmy Alfano Scholarship. She plans to attend The Culinary Institute of America.
- Haylee Gerard (Bryson City) is the recipient of the William F. Carl Scholarship. She attends Western Carolina University.
- Lorya Harbison (Asheville) is the recipient of the Pepsi “Service that Sells” Scholarship. She plans to attend Asheville- Buncombe Technical Community College.
- Madison Ligh (Mooresville) is the recipient of the LM Restaurants’ Family Scholarship. She attends North Carolina State University.
- Crystal Robertson (Garner) is the recipient of the William F. Carl Scholarship. She attends East Carolina University.
- Yasmin Rodriguez (High Point) is the recipient of the William F. Carl Scholarship. She attends Winston-Salem State University.
- Adam Schaller (Greenville) is the recipient of the Davidson & Jones Scholarship. He attends East Carolina University.
- Lily Kate Watson (Raleigh) is the recipient of the William F. Carl Scholarship. She plans to attend Liberty University.
- Marshall Weber (Raleigh) is the recipient of the LM Restaurants’ Family Scholarship. He attends Wake Technical Community College.
Scholarship recipients were honored in a ceremony yesterday, Wednesday, June 21.
