Raleigh, N.C. (September 21, 2016) — We commend policy makers—Mayor Roberts, members of the Charlotte City Council, House and Senate leadership and Governor McCrory—for their willingness to engage with us in conversation about the opportunity to repeal HB2, to get this law off our books and start fresh. We respect the range of opinions and perspectives and recognize the issues at hand reach beyond economics and politics. We also recognize that our state, the NC hospitality industry and most importantly the nearly 500,000 North Carolinians who earn their living in restaurants and hotels are being hurt, and likely will continue to be, until we have resolution. At this time, it appears both sides of the debate remain entrenched and an immediate resolution seems unlikely. While we do not advocate for one side or the other, we remain committed to open, respectful dialogue and to rebuilding our state’s image as a place that’s both welcoming and inclusive.
