SUMMARY:2019 North Carolina ProStart Invitational
DESCRIPTION:The North Carolina ProStart Invitational (NCPI) is a an annual event that highlights the creative abilities of ProStart program students from across the state. North Carolina ProStart schools are invited to bring two teams—culinary and/or restaurant management—with up to five students per team. During the culinary competition\, student competitors prepare a three-course meal in 60 minutes and are evaluated on taste\, skill\, teamwork\, safety and sanitation. In the management category\, teams develop and present a proposal for the next promising restaurant concept. Students must communicate their entrepreneurial ideas clearly and use their problem-solving skills to solve challenges faced by managers daily. The top-placing teams in the culinary and restaurant management competitions move forward to the national competition in April. Click here to register.

SUMMARY:NC ProStart Educator Fall Workshop
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \nProStart Educators are very fortunate to receive top notch professional development several times a year. This September\, North Carolina ProStart teachers will experience hands-on culinary instruction at the fall workshop. All North Carolina ProStart educators\, as well as culinary and food teachers\, are strongly encouraged to attend. \nHosted by the culinary and hospitality departments of Carteret Community College in Morehead City\, educators will receive training from culinary instructors and work alongside their peers to enhance their skills.The training will include sessions on Friday and Saturday pertinent to the ProStart curriculum. There will also be sessions on classroom best practices and implementing successful work-based learning experiences for students. \nFriday night\, educators will be treated to dinner and networking at Floyd’s 1921 Restaurant in Morehead City. \n\n  \nHOTEL ROOM BLOCK \nA room block has been secured for 109.00/ per night (plus tax) at The Inn at Pine Knoll Shores\, 511 Salter Path Rd\, Atlantic Beach\, NC 28512. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the NC ProStart Educator Summer Workshop being held in Greensboro\, July 23-24\, as a part of the NC CTE Summer Conference. \nOn Monday\, educators will tour a local hotel and restaurant that specialize in sustainability and local sourcing. Educators will hear from company executives and learn about curriculum-related topics while visiting the hospitality partner. On Tuesday\, educators will attend focus sessions to learn about the new ProStart curriculum and hear best practice strategies from teachers that have piloted the curriculum this year. \nLunch both days is included in the cost of the workshop. SUMMARY:2018 NC ProStart Invitational Presented by Golden Corral
DESCRIPTION:The North Carolina ProStart Invitational is a two-day secondary school competition focused on restaurant management and culinary arts. Student competitors put their skills to the test in front of industry leaders\, family and friends\, all with hopes of earning a coveted scholarship from one of the nation’s premier culinary and restaurant management programs. \nThe competition is composed of two distinct competitions: management and culinary. Management teams develop a proposal for the next promising restaurant concept and present it to the panel of industry judges in a trade show rotational format. Students must communicate their entrepreneurial ideas clearly and use their problem solving skills to solve challenges faced by managers daily. The culinary competition highlights each team’s creative abilities through the preparation of a three-course meal in 60 minutes\, using only two butane burners\, and without access to running water or electricity. There is no room for error as they are evaluated on taste\, skill\, teamwork\, safety and sanitation. \n (Day 1) Monday\, February 26 (9am-4pm) Culinary and Management Competitions \n*Competition location:  Wildcat Center\, JWU campus. \n*Attending the competitions is free and open to the public. \n*Parking is available in many locations on campus. \n*There are multiple eating venues near to the JWU campus for snack and meals during the day. \n(Day 2) Tuesday\, February 27 7:30am-11am) Awards Brunch and Ceremony:  \nTicket required! Includes Guest Chef workshop\, Exhibitor Showcase\, Awards Brunch Reception\, and Awards Ceremony Seating. Cost is $30 per person. Tickets are available for purchase online only HERE. \n*Location:  JWU Special Events Center and Hance Auditorium. \n*Tickets must be purchased online by February 17. \n*Tickets will not be available for purchase at the door. \n(Note:  All competitors and educators meals are included in their team registration costs and do not need to purchase separate meal tickets.
