NCRLA’s Push to Modernize the ABC System
NCRLA has made significant progress toward fixing the state’s outdated Alcohol Beverage Control system. Our team has worked around the clock for several months to help drive these much-needed changes. On July 29, Gov. Roy Cooper officially signed ABC Reform Bill SB 290 into law. The new law, which contains 26 extensive reforms, is a major victory for North Carolina’s restaurants, bars, and distilleries. But there is more work to be done.
That’s why NCRLA supports the movement called Free the Spirits which aims to pass HB971, a bill that would do away with the state’s ABC control system in favor of a licensure system much like beer and wine. North Carolina’s system of liquor control hasn’t kept up with the times and no longer serves today’s consumers or businesses.
